Aim This study aimed to develop and psychometric test the Mental Model elicitation Tool (MMeT) that map the nurses’ mental models during decision-making to adopt the CDSS. Methods A two-phased mixed-method study was adopted. Phase one study used an exploratory descriptive approach and yielded eight themes. Phase two study used a non-experimental, descriptive correlational design to examine the reliability and validity of the MMeT. Results The content validity found S-CVi of 0.94, and a Fleiss’ kappa of 0.77. The factor analyses established an 8-factor structure with the best model fits (CFI = 0.90, RMSEA = 0.50, TLI = 0.89, GFI = 0.84). The MMeT achieved the Cronbach’s alpha of 0.89, ICC was 0.96, acceptable concurrent validity and construct validity for the eight subscales. Conclusion The MMeT is reliable and valid for use as a measurement tool to map the nurses’ mental model in decision-making to adopt the CDSS.
