dc.description.abstract | Distributed Collaborative Design is part of a collection of systems and methods for the digital modeling of global product development and realization processes. Enterprises face tremendous challenges in geographically dispersed design and development of products, known as distributed environments. As design is seldom right initially and requires design changes affecting processes, enterprises need to synchronize information together. This thesis advocates that design synchronization involving design change is a key challenge to product-process interactions and collaborative decision-making. This thesis addresses: a.) A distributed collaborative design environment based on a suitable middleware framework and application architecture, and b.) Design synchronization capabilities for timely, accurate and consistent updates of design change for early collaborative decision making. Design changes affect product models. So it is crucial that they are properly detected and updated to application views, such as interactive product and fixture design, for effective collaborative decision-making and problem solving in distributed environments. | |
