In this thesis, research efforts have been made to improve energy efficiency in discrete parts manufacturing. Generally, the presented efforts can be approximately summarized into four interconnected categories: energy consumption modelling, surface roughness prediction, energy-efficient scheduling in an ultra-flexible job shop (uFJS), and energy-sensible integration of process planning and scheduling (ESIPPS). Each category plays an indispensable part in achieving energy-efficient manufacturing.
