Abstract: Abstract: Chemistry of twenty-four bryophyte species has been studied. Ten moss species provided seventeen new and ten known compounds. Phenanthrene derivatives, such as dicranopyran, were found in Dicranoloma blumii and Racomitrium lanuginosum. Ohioensins, pallidisetin A, pallidisetin B, and communin A were isolated from Polytrichum commune. Himantocladium cyclophyllum produced unique biflavonoid himantoflavone, which contained one flavone moiety and one isoflavone moiety. 3b 2,3b 2b 2b 2-Binaringenin methyl ethers were obtained from Ectropothecium sparsipilum. Pyrronin was found in Pyrrhobryum spiniforme and Pleurozium schreiberi and leuconin was isolated from Leucobryum sanctum. Twenty new and twenty-four known compounds were isolated from ten liverwort species. Most of them were terpenoids, flavonoids, and bisbibenzyls. Two bisbibenzyl acids from Blepharostoma trichophyllum and three chlorinated bisbibenzyls from Lepidozia chordulifera were the most interesting compounds. The structures of these thirty-seven new and thirty-four known compounds were elucidated using a combination of techniques, such as NMR, MS, XRD, and chemical modifications.
