The world of foreign aid is undergoing remarkable changes. Literature highlighted differences and similarities that supposedly characterize foreign aid proceding from non-DAC members compared to the OECD-DAC one. The countries in question have been dubbed as "non-traditional", "emerging" or "re-emerging" donors. Although usually included in this group, India as a donor is under-investigated, with the bulk of the literature focusing instead on China. The present work aims to look at contemporary Indian aid from a closer perspective, selecting the aid-relation developed with one recipient: Sri Lanka. Adopting the media-based data collection methodology by AidData, it attempts to "break down" aid flows by classifying them based on politically relevant categories such as sector, location, intent, etc., which are used as indicators of the donor's interest. The study uses the correlation between upheavals in political bilateral relations and prevalence of certain indicators to determine the interests of Indian foreign aid policy.
