Authors: Gupta, A.F.
Issue Date: 1994
Citation: Gupta, A.F. (1994). The Truth about Singapore English. English Today 10 (2) : 15-17. ScholarBank@NUS Repository.
Abstract: Singapore English (SE) is discussed in a rebuttal to an earlier article by Duncan Forbes (see LLBA 27/3, 9307103). Differences & similarities between SE & Standard English are discussed & the vowel system of SE is explained. The current status of English usage in Singapore is reviewed, & it is concluded that the regional Singaporean accent found in SE is not unusual - similar accents are found in English-speaking areas worldwide.
