Title: | Isothiocyanate derivatives as anti-cancer agents | Authors: | ZHAN TONG | Keywords: | isothiocyanate derivatives cruciferous vegetables anti-cancer agent | Issue Date: | 7-Mar-2008 | Citation: | ZHAN TONG (2008-03-07). Isothiocyanate derivatives as anti-cancer agents. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | Recent experimental results from epidemiological studies show a strong correlation of consumption of diets rich in cruciferous vegetables with a reduced incidence of prostate cancer. Isothiocyanate (ITC) is a major breakdown product when we consume these vegetables. ITCs are of interest since numerous studies have demonstrated that more than 25 natural and synthetic ITCs block the carcinogenic effects of a variety of chemically different types of carcinogens. In this report, we have synthesized a series of isothiocyanates derivates compounds include gold nanoparticles. The compounds were purified by HPLC and characterized by MS, IR and NMR spectroscopy. The nanoparticle were confirmed by TEM. The anti cancer properties of the derivates were determined by MTS assay. Among these, the most effectively derivates are focused on. Two kinds of human breast cancer line, MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7, were used through the whole experiment. | URI: | http://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/12995 |
