Abstract: This paper analyzes the performance of the classical Minimum Variance Distortionless Response (MVDR) beamformer using Sample Matrix Inversion (SMI) method and QR decomposition method for antenna-array based Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) software receivers (SR) The antenna-array based MVDR-SMI and MVDR-QR beamformer are evaluated over multiple interference environments using numerical simulations To investigate the impact of numerical stability and arithmetic precision on the SR-based beamformers, single precision floating point and double precision floating point data format are also simulated Finally, the simulation results have demonstrated several important characteristics and provided good design guides for the MVDR based beamformers over GNSS environments.
