Abstract: Merging current data with results of the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium showed that genes associated with voltage gated and ion channel pathways underlie both cognitive performance and schizophrenia. Using structural neuroimaging data, a previously reported genome-wide significant loci for schizophrenia cognition was demonstrated to implicate temporal and frontal lobe structures. Using a rigorous approach to establish viable cognitive phenotypes provided inroads to understanding associated genetic substrates. Findings explicated in this dissertation are amongst the first in the field using single site Asian data. It is envisioned they will provide an important springboard for further cognitive genetics investigation in Asia and beyond.
