Abstract: THE MAIN SUBJECT OF THIS THESIS IS THE INTERACTION OF LIGHT WITH TWO DIMENSIONAL CONDENSED MATTER SYSTEMS, IT ENCOMPASSES THE BULK OF THE CONTENTS IN THE THESIS AND SPANS FROM THE FIRST TO THIRD CHAPTERS. CHAPTER ONE IS DEDICATED TO THE REVIEW OF THE FORMALISMS USED TO STUDY THESE INTERACTIONS. THE SECOND CHAPTER CONCERNS APPLICATIONS OF LINEAR RESPONSE FOR GRAPHENE NANORIBBONS, WITH PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO THE ANISOTROPIC ABSORPTION. THE THIRD CHAPTER IS DEDICATED TO STUDY OF PHOTOCURRENT GENERATION IN DEVICES BASED ON GRAPHENE OR BORON NITRIDE. THE FOURTH AND FINAL CHAPTER DELVES INTO THE CALCULATION OF EFFECTIVE HAMILTONIANS FOR (QUASI) TWO DIMENSIONAL IN THE PRESENCE OF SPIN-ORBIT INTERACTION.
