Abstract: This thesis is dedicated to the design and implementation of an activity-based modeling framework for Singapore, specifically focusing on the comprehensive development of the framework and moving the state-of-the-art into empirical and innovative implementations. This core objective is served in the thesis with several specific issues to address. The first part of the thesis focuses on the data needed for the development of operational activity-based models. The second part of the thesis is devoted to the design and implementation of an operational full-fledged activity-based modeling framework, the pre-day activity-based model, and its simulator for Singapore. The third part of the thesis intends to advance the studies on human daily activity patterns by providing new perspective and methodology in the modeling and learning of daily activity patterns using probabilistic context-free grammars.
