dc.description.abstract | Graphene, a basal building block in graphitic materials, exhibits far-reaching properties viable for industrial applications. The production by micromechanical cleavage for fundamental studies is yet not scalable. Solution-processability can be achieved with sub-stoichiometric graphene oxide (sub-GOx), a distinguished class of materials with relatively large nano-graphene domains that are bounded by oxidised sp3 regions. Here, we seek to understand the mechanism routes in obtaining high-yield re-graphenised graphene dispersion after functionalisation and deoxidation. Further, recent achievements in chemical vapour deposition (CVD) have led to fabrication of large-area graphene sheets on metal foils. However, breakthroughs are required to reliably transfer them onto arbitrary surfaces for device fabrications. Therefore this work addresses the material fundamentals and existing challenges to develop such robust transfer method. New opportunities in and fundamental studies of novel heterostructure devices based on graphene-organic hybrids can thus be explored. | |
