Abstract: CARBON (C)-BASED REINFORCEMENTS, IN PARTICULAR CARBON NANOTUBE (CNT) AND GRAPHENE HAVE ATTRACTED CONSIDERABLE ATTENTION IN THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS BECAUSE OF THEIR EXTRAORDINARY STRUCTURAL AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES. THESE MAKE THEM GOOD CANDIDATES AS REINFORCEMENTS TO STRENGTHEN METALS. MAJOR CHALLENGES IN THE SYNTHESIS OF CARBON BASED REINFORCED METAL MATRIX COMPOSITES (MMCS) INCLUDE THE DIFFICULTY IN INCORPORATING AND DISTRIBUTING THEM EVENLY IN THE METAL MATRIX AS WELL AS INSUFFICIENT WETTING BETWEEN THE CARBON REINFORCEMENT AND THE METAL MATRICES. THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE CURRENT RESEARCH IS THE ADVANCEMENT OF KNOWLEDGE IN THE AREA OF SYNTHESIS OF MAGNESIUM COMPOSITES REINFORCED WITH CARBON-BASED MATERIALS (MG/C). EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH STUDIES WILL CONTRIBUTE TO A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE DISPERSION MECHANISM OF CARBON-BASED REINFORCEMENT IN THE MAGNESIUM METAL MATRIX AND IMPROVE ADHESION BETWEEN THEM THROUGH INTERFACE ENGINEERING.
