dc.description.abstractA maximum likelihood sequence detection algorithm is proposed for carrier phase recovery in single carrier coherent optical communication systems. A implementable Viterbi trellis based decision metric is derived. An adaptive version is also proposed to automatically achieve optimal performance without the requirement of pre channel statistics. A pilot assisted MLSD scheme is also proposed to solve the problem of cycle slips.
