Title: | Numerical Study of Hemodynamics and Gas Transport in Arterioles | Authors: | JU MEONGKEUN | Keywords: | hemodynamics, microcirculation, gas transport, oxygen delivery, shear stress | Issue Date: | 5-Aug-2014 | Citation: | JU MEONGKEUN (2014-08-05). Numerical Study of Hemodynamics and Gas Transport in Arterioles. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | In this study, blood flow in small arteriole was investigated by using a new simulation technique that combines the hemodynamic model and gas transport model into a single numerical framework. In the previous numerical approaches for gas transport, blood is treated as a homogeneous continuum phase. This may present a serious limitation in gas transport models for microvessel flows due to the failure of these simulations to capture the effects of discrete red blood cell (RBC) motion on the hemodynamics which in term mediate the gas transport process. This study overcomes the identified limitation by including both discrete RBCs simulation and gas transport simulation in one frame work. | URI: | http://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/118588 |
