Abstract: This thesis is devoted to devising optimal resource allocation schemes for a new type of multiuser wireless systems with simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) to the users. We start with investigating the system with information transmissions only. We characterize the weighted sum-rate maximization in the K-user Gaussian interference channel with multi-antenna transmitters/receivers and propose a new algorithm to achieve the global optimality of this long-standing open problem. Then, we consider a point-to-point wireless link for SWIPT over a flat-fading channel corrupted by the time-varying co-channel interference. We propose a novel mode switching protocol, where the receiver switches between information decoding and energy harvesting over time based on the channel condition, and also derive the optimal mode switching rule. Last, we study the optimal beamforming design in a multi-antenna SWIPT system to ensure the information transmission security from a physical-layer perspective.
