The occurrence of strange nonchaotic attractors (SNA) in autonomous discrete-time maps and in periodically driven continuous-time systems was investigated. SNAs were shown to be induced by small noise in the systems. Results show that there exist open sets of finite areas in the two-dimensional parameter space for which the asymptotic attractor is strange. The physical relevance of SNAs was also discussed.
