ScholarBank@NUS Repository. https://doi.org/10.1002/adma.200900249 | Abstract: | The observation of photoexcitation and photocurrent generation directly from ligated metallic nanoparticles (NP) instead of semiconductors was reported. The mechanism for photcurrent generation and conduction in the Au NP system was discussed and the applicability of metallic Au NPs for photodetection was demonstrated. Under light-illumination, the photoexcitation generates sufficient electron-hole pairs, such that the limiting factor is the carrier-injection barriers at the electrode/NPs contacts. Si in the ITO/p-Si-junction is found to exhibit two optical absorption peaks at 3.5 and 4.2eV respectively, while the photon energy used here is 2.3eV, which is associated with a low absorption coefficient. The photocurrent relation observed highlights the significance of the close packing of Au NPs in photocurrent generation and conduction. | Source Title: | Advanced Materials | URI: | http://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/112616 | ISSN: | 09359648 | DOI: | 10.1002/adma.200900249 |
