Abstract
This thesis is about revitalizing the current deserted Waterloo Centre by negotiating its boundaries and inserting a series of program that stitch it back to the present urban context, and how the various existing and inserted user groups function together in layers. It attempts to address issues that arose from the analysis of Waterloo Street, which includes the lack of lingering space for the public along Waterloo Street, the lack of contribution to the street life by the existing residents, the deserted nature of Waterloo Street, and the institutionalised nature of the existing galleries such as Singapore Art Museum which is unable to attract public to engage in art appreciation. The project aims to inject life into Waterloo Street through the revitalisation of Waterloo Centre, establishing it as a space that showcase art in progress, and creating opportunities for art appreciation for the general public as part of their traveling route, and where different user groups are coexistin layers as a community through the interdependency in usage of spaces in the development.
