Abstract
The results on the use of chlorodifluoromethane (Freon 22) as an alternative supercritical fluid to carbon dioxide for the analysis of polar solutes are presented. Five phenols are analyzed by using a capillary column with UV detection at a wavelength of 280 nm. A comparative study using pure carbon dioxide and Freon 22 is carried out. The effects of pressure and temperature on the capacity factors for the phenols are investigated. The usefulness of Freon 22 in supercritical fluid chromatography is demonstrated.
