Abstract
This article describes a new method for the determination of ultra trace levels of 12 N-methylcarbamates in drinking water via micellar electrokinetic chromatography (MEKC). Two steps were employed to enhance the detection sensitivity. The sample was first preconcentrated by C18 bonded SPE cartridge and then further enriched through on-column stacking. With this two-step enrichment procedure, the method permits separation and UV detection of N-methylcarbamates at the 0.1-ppb level. This new alternative for the determination of carbamates in drinking water is convenient and fast and consumes practically no organic solvent. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
