Abstract
In the construction industry, with increased disposal costs and reduction in number of landfills create a need to implement waste management in construction projects which brings about numerous benefits including cost-saving. However, the magnitude of the benefits differs for different construction projects with the possible reason that there are different characteristics of construction projects involved.
Understanding how the characteristics such as different types of project and difference in project value will affect the benefits of waste management plan could be helpful in aiding the construction to recognize the limitation of benefits that can be achieved.
This study investigates how different types of project and the difference in project value can have an impact on cost-saving, one of the benefits in implementing waste management plan in constructions projects.
In this research, questionnaire-based survey was conducted to seek experts’ opinions, insights, perceptions and experiences concerning how different types of construction project and difference in project value, as well as key material used in construction project will have an impact on cost saving from waste management plan.
From this study, the information shows that different characteristics in construction projects do affect the degree of cost saving from waste management plan. On the other hand, this study also identifies other factors that can have impact on the cost saving, gathered from the experts’ opinions through the survey questionnaire.
