Abstract

The 21st Century has witnessed the advent of women in a myriad of leadership roles in various segment of our society namely social, economic and politics. Women have not only advanced themselves in the private and government sectors of the labour force, which was once dominated by males but excelled in the careers of their choice. In celebrating women?s success, it is important for us to stand back and look at the women leaders who have strived for emancipation to pave the way for women now to stand tall amongst men. In this paper, `The Image of Women: An Analysis of the Dynamics of Women Leadership in the Malay Archipelago?, I seek to analyse the leadership traits and styles of two women in the Malay World. I also seek to examine the three dimensions behind their struggle towards emancipation; namely education, marriage and the right to voice their opinion to arrive at the conclusion whether their struggle is influenced by feudalism or Islam. Also, I aim to analyse whether they exercise transformational leadership as their style of leadership.
