Abstract
This work investigates various thin-wire circular multi-loop antennas. As the elements of multi-loop antennas can be oriented in innumerable ways, a new entire-domain Method-of-Moments formulation for analyzing a set of arbitrarily oriented loops is derived. This formulation allows for the convenient analysis of all the previously reported multi-loop structures as well as many new ones. It is used in this work to analyze various orthogonal, skewed, coaxial, V-shaped and concentric loop structures. The formulation is verified to be correct and accurate through corroboration with experimental results. A new V-shaped loop antenna called the Butterfly-loop is proposed in this work and is shown to have superior radiation characteristics than the conventional loop antenna. Also, another new loop antenna called the Direct-coupled Concentric Half-loop is also proposed in this work for use in UWB applications. Ita??s good performance is conclusively shown by successfully deploying it in a very high speed UWB link.
