Abstract
A new method is announced for computing derivatives of repeated eigenvalues and the corresponding eigenvectors of symmetric matrix pencils depending smoothly on a real parameter. The method, which remains valid when the eigenvalue derivatives are also repeated, is illustrated by a special case in which earlier methods fail.
