Abstract
Analyses of insoluble deposits taken from a local sewage pipe showed that the constituents of the solids are unknown organic matter; adsorbed or entrapped water and some inorganic substances. Of the inorganic component, several ions and radicals have been identified. They are mainly aluminium; iron, sulphate and phosphate with copper and chromium present as minor contaminants. The probable origin of the above ions is likely to have derived from both domestic and industrial wastes as well as from the corroded sewage system. Since further work are required the present investigation no definite conclusion can be drawn regarding the factors behind the phenomenon of crystal forma ion. It is possible that insoluble salts of the detected ions are trapped by the organic matrix and in which they provide nuclei for crystal growth thus leading to inorganic deposition
