Abstract
This study is about Christian men who have a religious calling, and have decided to express it in the form of full-time Christian work. It sets out to discover the nature of the calling as experienced by these men, and to understand their subsequent negotiation of their calling. Firstly, the calling is seen as personal, unique, and therefore best comprehensible by those who are called. Secondly, it is as a process or journey that never completed. We looked at how the calling was revealed to these men, the various steps that they have taken to fulfil their calling, and the negotiation of certain aspects of their lives with regards to their calling. When we consider the various findings, the interplay of the sacred and secular is seen to be the most appropriate approach in explaining the data. This interplay is multifaceted because the sacred and the secular interact on more than one dimension. The sacred and secular seems incompatible on one level, and yet complementary on another. Furthermore, this interplay is mediated by one's constant enchantment of his sacred calling.
