Abstract
Quarrystones have been used extensively as armor units for rock revetments built around the southern islands of Singapore. In the relatively unexposed coastal waters of Singapore, a wave with an average return period of 25 yr has been reported to be 1. 7 m on the basis of the Fisher-Tippett Type I distribution. The quarrystones are generally of a size and weight manageable for placement by hand pitching with the aid of a crane. A statistical study of the gradation characteristics of the quarrystones for shore line protection against small wave attack is described. The quarry stones have been supplied from granite quarries at Pulau Ubin after secondary crushing.
