Abstract: This paper describes HALT (Hardware Assembly Learning Tool), a learning tool, that embodies the strengths of both multimedia and artificial intelligence. The system supports exploratory of learning and provides a adaptive environment that allows the user to navigate the hypertext system effectively. It involves static display of bitmaps, the integration of hypertext, sound and video by means of multimedia techniques. HALT, demonstrates the effectiveness of multimedia in the implementation of a software learning tool to guide computer users to assemble the various computer components into a complete computer set by themselves and to help them to troubleshoot should problems arise.
