Abstract: The use of single crystal samples in polarized IR studies allowed a more detailed assignment of the spectra and the observation of isotope bands of the NO- 3 ions. We have found and assigned bands for 18O, 17O and 15N isotopes, and good agreement has been obtained for both their frequencies and intensifies. The IR isotope bands of the ν1 mode helped the assignment of the ν1 Raman components. In AgNO3, the splitting of the degenerate modes is found to be caused mainly by the dynamic factor group effect, not the static site effect. © 1992.
