Abstract: By generalizing earlier models, we formulate a set of ordinary differential equations involving several parameters for studying finite-amplitude oscillations and collapse of an initially unstable, rotating, compressible, homogeneous ellipsoid in which the velocity fields are linear functions of the coordinates and the fluid in the ellipsoid consists of degenerate electrons and nondegenerate nuclei. The dynamical behaviors of these homogeneous degenerate spheroidal models of white dwarf stars with finite surface pressure are obtained by the numerical integration of these equations. Their behaviors for different sets of parameters are described by trajectories in the (a1, a3)-phase plane (where a1 and a3 are the semimajor and semiminor diameters, respectively), and by the evolution of both a1 and the total central pressure. We find that the motions of most of these degenerate models are quite different from those of the corresponding nondegenerate models. The applicability of these models to unstable rotating white dwarfs is briefly discussed.
