Abstract: Using the Nilsson model, we found that the theoretical value for the Coulomb matrix element 〈A|VCD|A〉 of the particular class of isospin-forbidden beta-transitions in which a valence proton is in a Nilsson orbital expressed in terms of only one base vector 〈|NlΛΣ〉 has a very simple form: 〈 A ̄|VCD|A〉 = a + bβ where a is either zero or approximately zero, b is approximately a constant and β is the deformation parameter. Therefore, for such transitions, the experimental determination of the Coulomb matrix element is sufficient to determine the value of β and vice versa. © 1987.
