The magnetic measurements on amorphous RE60Fe 30Al10 with RE = Nd and Y indicated the presence of clusters in amorphous rare earth (RE) and transition metal, alloys. A model for magnetic ordering was proposed for the inhomogeneous amorphous ferromagnets. This model was based on Langevin function of small magnetic clusters with strong interactions. The strong interactions could result in ferromagnetic coupling of the clusters below its critical temperature (T'/'t'm), therefore termed as cluster ferromagnetism. The magnetization curves of the samples could be well described with the cluster ferromagnetic model. © 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
