Abstract: Thermal dehydration promotes the topochemical conversion of the hydrogen-bonded dimeric complex [{Zn(sala)(H2O)2}2]·2H2O (H2-(sala) = N-(2-hydroxybenzyl)-L-alanine) to generate covalent [{Zn(sala)}(n)]. X-ray crystallography reveals that hydrogen bonding plays a key role in this process.
