Abstract
The coordination chemistry of [(C6Me6)Ru(tpdt)] (1) (tpdt=3-thiapentane-1,5-dithiolate) towards Group 14 moieties has been studied. The reactions with Ph2MCl2 (M=Ge or Sn) and Ph3MCl (M=Sn or Pb) led to the isolation of [{(η6-C6Me6)Ru}(μ2-η 2:η3-C4H8S3){MCl (η1-C6H5)2}](PF6), [M=Ge (5)(PF6), Sn (6)(PF6)] and [{(η6-C6Me6)Ru}(μ2-η 1:η3-C4H8S3){M (η1-C6H5)3}](PF6) [M=Sn (7)(PF6), Pb (8)(PF6)], respectively. The reaction with Ph2SiCl2 in the presence of NH4PF6 gave a quantitative yield of [(η6-C6Me6)Ru(η3-C 4H9S3)](PF6), (4)(PF6) which converts to [{(η6-C6Me6)Ru}2(MeCN)(μ 2-η2:η3-C4H8S 3)](PF6)2, (3)(PF6)2. The X-ray structures show that 1 can either act as a monodentate metalloligand as in 7 and 8 or a bidentate ligand as in 5 and 6. © 2003 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
