Abstract: Reduction of MCl2(η2-dppf) with NaBH4 gives M(η2-dppf)2 (M Pt, 1, Pd, 2). Oxidation of 1 or 2 with S8 gives the tetrasulfido complex M(η2-S4)(η2-dppf). Addition of 1 or 2 to Fe3 (μ3-S)2(CO)9 results in the heterometallic complex (CO)6Fe2(μ3-S)2 M(η2-dppf) (M Pt, 5; Pd, 6) and two substitution side products Fe3(μ3-S)2(CO)7(μ-dppf) (7) and [Fe3(μ3-S) 2(CO)8]2(μ-dppf) (8). © 1994.
