Abstract: Beneficial fusion! Boron dipyrromethene (BODIPY) has been successfully fused to a porphyrin core by an intramolecular, oxidative, cyclodehydrogenation reaction. The newly synthesized dyes 1 and 2 have good solubility and exhibit intensified near-IR absorption and remarkable photostability. Copyright © 2011 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim.
