Abstract: Insertion direction of hydrogen in protonation of α-MoO3 was reported. Different travelling paths were created for hydrogen during the protonation reaction with H2S. The results showed that hydrogen preferentially entered the layered host along '001' direction, although an entire interlayer space was open to the guest species.
