dc.description.abstractThe non-linear optical (NLO) properties of two distorted cage clusters {WAg3S3 [S2P(OCH2 CH3)2]}(S)(Ph3P)3 (1) and {MoAg3S3[S2P(OCH2CH 3)2]}(S)(Ph3P)3 (2) were studied. Both NLO absorption and refraction were observed with 1 and 2, third-order effects were detected with α2 = 6 × 10-10 mW-1 for 1 and α2 = 8 × 10-10 mW-1 for 2. NLO refraction was also found on 1 and 2, with n2 = 1 × 10-16 m2 W-1 for 2. The non-linearity of these two clusters was compared with some related NLO materials.
