Calculations of throwing power based on a model that defines mass distribution on irregular cathode surfaces were verified by experiments with nine nickel plating baths. The model can be used to describe metal distribution on complex surface contours, estimate the closest distance a cathode may be placed from an anode to satisfy thickness requirements, and approximate the cell voltage to achieve a desired deposition rate.
