Abstract: Ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) is a very promising source of clean and renewable energy for our planet. This review article presents the research and developments on OTEC with regard to energy utilisation, platform design and mooring system, heat exchanger system and environmental impact. It also includes very recent developments in realising the construction of large scale OTEC facilities. © 2011 The Institution of Engineers, Singapore.
