Various FCC structured colloid crystals were fabricated using polystyrene (PS) as blocking units by the horizontal deposition method, and PS spheres with diameter range from 2 μm to 10 μm can be used for the self-assembly of colloidal crystals. Using the PS colloid crystals as template, silica (SiO2) inverse opals were fabricated by the vertical deposition method. The differences between the horizontal deposition method and the vertical deposition method were also discussed in this paper.
