Abstract: The preparation of carbon-zeolite composite membranes for gas separation, was analyzed using the pyrolysis of polymer-zeolite mixed matrix membranes (MMM). A zeolite-filled MMM was prepared through the incorporation of zeolite into a Matrimid polyimide matrix. It was observed that the selectivity and permeability of carbon-zeolite composite membranes increase tremendously after carbonization. The carbon-zeolite composite membrane possesses higher separation efficiency than the carbon membrane derived from a pure Matrimid dense film. The results show that carbon-zeolite composite membranes provide impressive separation efficiency with reasonable high permeability for CO 2/CH4 gases.
