Abstract: This paper focuses on selective laser melting of amorphous lithium aluminosilicate glass powders without the use of any binders, as a net shape manufacturing technique. The glass powders were prepared by melting of raw materials, followed by grinding and mechanical milling. A CO 2 laser was used to melt and deposit the powders. Relatively dense parts could be fabricated by optimizing the laser processing parameters. Using high laser intensities resulted in photon-induced loss of bulk material from the glass. X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) tests of the bulk parts revealed their amorphous nature. Bulk, porous glass-ceramics were obtained by heat treatment of the laser-fabricated parts.
