Abstract: The structural characterization of tetraaquabis[5-(4-pyridyl n-oxide)-tetrazolato-κN 2]cadmium, an intermediate in synthesis of tetrazole from nitrile and azide was analyzed. Cd atoms were present on twofold axis and coordination geometry of Cd atom was slightly found to be distorted octahedron which involved four water molecules and two tetrazole ligands. The tetrazoles were prepared by addition of azides to nitriles in water with catalysis of Lewis acid such as zinc salts. The coordination geometry of Cd atom was slightly distorted octahedron which involved four water molecules and two tetrazolate ligands.
