Abstract: A theoretical and experimental investigation is made of the performance of an analog optical fiber link carrying multichannel frequency modulated TV signals. The link consists of an 840-nm laser diode, a multimode graded index optical fiber, and an avalanche photodetector. A peak frequency deviation of 3 MHz and an interchannel spacing of 35 MHz are found to give optimum performance. With a diode output of 1 mW and a link loss of 21 dB, it is shown that 6 channels may be transmitted through the link with an SNR (weighted) of 54 dB.
