Abstract: Manganites with perovskite structure possess interesting properties, such as colossal magnetoresistance effects and high spin polarization, which make them good candidates for technological applications. In this system, the competition between different interactions produces rich phase diagrams, and provides a high degree of freedom to modulate material properties. This thesis focused on the effects of strain modulation on the manganite films and their properties. Two kinds of strain effects were investigated: the lattice mismatch between film and substrate, and piezoelectric response of piezoelectric substrate to the electric field bias. Both cases indicated that the strain was an effective way to modulate the crystal structure, electronic structure, and the materials properties.
