Abstract: Sensor enriched User Generated Content(UGC) has in-situ value in ad-hoc events such as exhibitions. Sharing UGC in such events is challenging given smartphone battery and bandwidth constraints. Existing UGC sharing research rely on infrastructure and are network agnostic. This thesis proposes three techniques which are network and content aware. The first technique manages video upload by balancing trade-off between visual quality(inferred from sensor metadata) and upload cost, by selecting a video subset from all UGC. The second technique organizes unstructured photos containing noise from occlusion, diverse views and ambient lighting, into a hierarchy that allows users to navigate between high context and high detail images. The third technique operates when infrastructure is unavailable, by pushing relevant content on mobile-to-mobile (m2m) links. Relevance is predicted by fast accumulation of user feedback over m2m networks. Evaluation results on traces and real testbeds demonstrate significant resource savings while achieving effective UGC sharing.
