This work revolves around two aspects of Prussian blue (PB) electroanalytical chemistry; namely the Na+-inhibited K+ intercalation process and the PB-modified nanoporous alumina membrane electrode. Part One describes the investigation of the details of Na+-inhibited K+ intercalation using the PB-modified membrane electrode and the exploration of a method to utilize Na+-inhibited K+ intercalation for a novel PB-based Na+ sensor. Part Two presents the development of a PB-based dual-analyte sensor for K+ and Na+ based on Na+-inhibited K+ intercalation and a sequential determination approach. Part Three explores the observation of co-existing Na+-inhibited and direct K+ intercalation processes and the development of a PB-based simultaneous sensor for K+ and Na+ based on these co-existing processes. The last part of this work explores the interesting properties and potential application of a two-compartment hydrogen peroxide amperometric sensor based on the PB-modified alumina membrane electrode which was situated at the interface between the two compartments.
