Abstract: A systematic approach based on orthogonal array designs for the optimization of solid-phase extraction (SPE) is described. As an example, an off-line SPE approach for extracting 30 pesticides from water was optimized based on the examination of the relevant parameters by orthogonal array designs. The advantages and the disadvantages of the method are discussed.
